How’s it going eh, you hosers? We are back into Canadian content so let’s grab a Beavertail, throw on some lumberjack plaid, high-five a moose, and let’s get into it!

DAVID McCABE
3B, Rome Braves, High-A Atlanta Brave
**May 30 - promoted to High-A from Single-A Augusta**
6ft 3in, 230 lbs, 23 years old, Oshawa ON
2022 MLB Draft, 4th Round, 125 selection overall, UNC-Charlotte
Organizational Ranking: Prospects Live #16, Baseball America #27
Games observed: May 31 & June 1 v Bowling Green
large framed and imposing in the batter’s box with minimal physical projection remaining
switch hitter with an open stance and leg kick from the left side of the plate while being more evenly set with a toe-tap timing mechanism from the right side
displayed reasonable defensive ability while at 3B with an average to above-average arm
exhibits good knowledge of the strike zone and takes walks when there
McCabe’s power is legitimate and I’d be comfortable saying 60-grade power is in his toolbox - David McCabe, Solo HR, June 3
Solid hit tool displayed in the games with evaluators putting grades between 45-50 grade on it
YTD Stats (as of June 5):
48 G, 167 AB, .269 BA, .383 OBP, .485 SLG, .868 OPS, 49 K, 31 BB
Overall we are looking at a bat-first profile that will spend their defensive time at the hot corner. McCabe did play some 1B as a 49er in college providing some position flexibility but the Braves have had him at 3B while playing some DH rather than any meaningful time at first. Speed won’t be a part of his game and isn’t needed from a profile like David’s. McCabe’s future success will come down to his ability at the plate by improving on hitting non-fastball offerings while continuing to improve his defensive ability at 3B.
Thank you for stopping by and checking in today. We’re going to wrap it up here for now and I’ll be talking with you all in a while. Until then, you know what you gotta do…KEEP IT 80 GRADE!
