The 2025 MLB Draft is rapidly approaching (July 13-14) and will feature some Canadian content, providing a touch of maple throughout. Keep your eyes & ears open for the following 8 Hosers. A few familiar names and some newer one to look out for. Check them out, in no particular order…
Charles Davalan, OF, Montreal, PQ, University of Arkansas
Micah Bucknam, RHP, Abbotsford, BC, Dallas Baptist University
Tim Piasentin, 3B, Foothills Composite HS, Okotoks, AB (University of Miami commit)
Antoine Jean, LHP, Montreal, PQ, University of Houston
Will Hynes, RHP, Lorne Park Secondary, Mississauga, ON (Wake Forest commit)
Shane Brinham, LHP, Hansworth SS, North Vancouver, BC (University of Michigan commit)
Nick Groves, OF, London, ON, University of Illinois
Philip Cheong, INF, Ontario Blue Jays, Richmond Hill, ON (Stanford commit)
Davalan, Bucknam, and Jean have made multiple appearances here at SB&S and are the most familiar names of the group.
Tim Piasentin is the top-rated Canadian high schooler in this year’s draft. Tim is physically developed (6 ft 3 in, 205 lbs) with significant power, displaying exit velos near 110 mph.
Will Hynes is likely the best Canadian HS pitcher of the class with an improving 3-pitch-mix (FB/SL/CH) and a lean, projectable frame/physique.
Lefty and Michigan Wolverine commit, Shane Brinham, will only be 17 years old on draft day, being one of the youngest players available in this class.
Nick Groves is a hit>power profile who has excellent plate discipline, hitting .300 or higher while getting on base nearly 50% of the time throughout his collegiate career.
Rounding out our group, Philip Cheong is committed to playing for the Cardinal and is an excellent athlete with great speed (6.36 60-yard dash) along with being an outstanding student (4.0 GPA).
