Previously we’ve gone through Gary Carter and Dave Stieb. Now it’s time for the other pitcher that occupies a place in my early baseball memories. Let’s take a bit of a trip back to meet our next Inductee In An Instant…
Born: May 14/1954, Granada, Nicaragua
Signed with the Baltimore Orioles in December 1973 as an international free agent.
Made their MLB debut with the Orioles on September 14/1976 (13,816th MLB player in history)
5.2 IP, 4 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 1 ER v Detroit Tigers
Spent time with the Orioles, Expos, Indians, Braves, Mariners
Their last MLB game was with the Braves on September 27/1998 against the Mets (0.2 IP, 3 H, 1 K, 1 ER)
Career Stats:
During his career, this RHP was a 4-time All-Star, won the ERA title (1991), won a World Series (1983 Orioles), and is a member of the Baltimore Orioles Hall Of Fame. An inductee of the Canadian Baseball Hall Of Fame since 2016, it would be hard to find a more signature career moment than his outing on July 28/1991 against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. If you’re of a certain vintage, I bet you can close your eyes and picture it while hearing a beauty of a call from Dave Van Horne…
“El Presidente, El Pefecto!”
Our Inductee In An Instant today is:
El Presidente, Dennis Martinez.
Thank you for checking in today and I’ll be talking with you again in a while. Until then, as always and forever…Keep It 80 Grade.
