Good day eh! It’s hot as hell here in the nation’s capital, so let’s not waste any time or energy. We’ve got a look-in at the College World Series on tap today. Grab a cool, refreshing bevy along with multiple freezies and let’s get to it!
College World Series
Oh, boy, Razorbacks. Everything looked good heading into the bottom of the 9th, but it ended in a rather dramatic fashion. I thought there was a tailor-made ball with runners on 1st and 2nd hit to Golden Spikes winner Wehiwa Aloy for a 6-4-3 double play, and on to the Finals. He went to 3rd base instead, getting only the lead runner, which kept the inning going for LSU. After that, Omahoser Charles Davalan initially looks to have misread a hit at him, which turned into a bit of a dog’s breakfast. I don’t have the words to adequately describe how this inning unfolded, so take a look here…
FINALS: LSU v Coastal Carolina
LSU was seeking its 8th title, while the Chanticleers went after their 2nd championship, and it all kicked off with an absolutely classic pitching display in Game 1.
LSU scored just one run in Game 1. Coastal pitchers Cameron Flukey and Dominick Carbone were outstanding (6 H, 1 R, 11 K, 2 BB), but that single run was more than enough for Kade Anderson. Kade delivered a complete game shutout (3 H, 10 K, 5 BB), bringing the Tigers within a game of claiming the championship.
More runs for Game 2, but the result was the same with an LSU win and taking their 8th championship in program history home to Baton Rouge, which is 2nd only to USC’s 12 titles. A 4-run fourth inning put the Tigers ahead 5-1, and even though the Chants put up a couple of runs in their half of the 7th, the result wasn’t in doubt.
Congratulations Geaux out to the Tigers, who were full value for the title! Jay Johnson… think he can coach and run a program?
