We continue on in the spirit of taking a little look back at some local/hometown history and personal baseball memories with the first “travel ball” team that I ever knew. The best part…they’re still going strong representing the 613.
My first recollection of the Ottawa Nepean Canadians was back in ninth or tenth grade back in 19…don’t worry about it…
…when I saw a fellow schoolmate pitching in the gym over the winter. That sound of the ball hitting the catcher’s mitt echoed through the gym and I remember going…well that was some serious stuff. Asked and found out that they pitched for the Canadians.
Established in 1970, ONC currently plays in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO) through the summers with teams in the 14U, 15U, 16U & 18U age groups. The program runs all year with summer league play, fall ball, off-season training, and US showcases. Over the years, there have been 11 professional signings, 36 players going on to play at Canadian College/University, 52 players went to play in the US (NCAA: D1 - 16, D2 - 5, D3 - 9, 19 JUCO Bandits, NAIA - 2), and eight players went on to wear the Maple Leaf representing the Canadian National Team.
