Welcome to the Junior Caminero Edition of our Prospect Watch Recap. Let’s not waste any time and get straight into it:
Junior Caminero 3B, Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays, High-A)
Organizational Ranking: #4 by Prospects Live, #8 by Baseball America
Dates Seen: 05/03, 05/05, 05/06
Observations:
Batted 3rd in the line-up and played 3B in the games seen
Junior is bigger than his listed weight of 157 lbs
His arm is easily plus and is more than enough for 3B
Aggressive approach at the plate
Even with the aggressive approach the SwStr% & K% are not in concerning territory
Exhibited good knowledge of the zone and showed a willingness to take walks when there
Showed off power going oppo taco 05/03
Consistently hit the ball hard and displayed very good bat speed
Did get caught out front on some breaking/off-speed but that will improve as we have to remember Caminero is only 19 years old and the approach will continue to evolve as he matures
Season To Date Stats (as of 05/08):
98 PA, .356/.408/.678, .474 wOBA, 180 wRC+, .322 ISO, 23.5 K%, 6.1 BB%
Junior is a fun watch with a middle-of-the-lineup bat that I’m very bullish on. A very exciting player profile and a must to keep paying attention to. A tip of the cap to Tampa for picking up Junior from the Guardians in a deal for Tobias Myers. This trade is looking very good as of now and is still very promising looking out a couple of seasons to the future.
Quick preview of what’s upcoming -
We are wrapping up our Follow List over the next couple of weeks with our Statline Search players. This week we’ll have Tsung Che Cheng (SS, Greensboro, Pirates High-A) and Juan Mercedes (RHP, Arkansas, Mariners Double-A) then we’ll check in with Will Dion (LHP, Lake County, Guardians High-A) and Kenedy Corona (OF, Corpus Christi, Astros Double-A) to wrap up the lists.
After that, we’ll get back into some more Canadian MILB Dirtbags along with some draft-eligible Canucks to be shared in short order.
Thank you for checking in today and I’ll be talking with you again in a while. Until then, as always - Keep It 80 Grade!
